A Catholic bishop in southern Philippines announced a 40-day fasting and penitence as the nation continues to grapple with the pandemic.

Bishop Moises Cuevas, the apostolic administrator of Zamboanga, made the declaration “in solidarity with those who suffer readily the effects of the pandemic”.

Thousands of Afghans have entered Pakistan via the Chaman border crossing, one of the most active trade and travel routes between the countries, according to media reports.

Church groups urge gov’t to address root causes of human trafficking

An interfaith group marked the World Day Against Trafficking on Friday by calling on the government to intensify its campaign against the modern slavery by addressing its root causes.
