Bad weather disrupts ‘walk for climate’

MANILA, Sept. 19, 2014— A Church-led walk against the effects of climate change was brought to a halt by heavy rains from tropical storm “Mario” and the southwest monsoon.
The “Walk for Climate” was set to take place after a Mass at the Manila Cathedral on Friday morning but the bad weather forced organizers to cancel the activity.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle himself was supposed to lead the march around Manila but they have to cancel it for the safety of the participants.

“This march can still be held in other days anyway,” Tagle said.

Pope at Mass: resurrection completes Christian identity

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis celebrated Mass in the chapel of the Santa Marta residence on Friday morning. In remarks to the gathered faithful following the readings of the day, the Holy Father focused on the Resurrection as the seal of Christian identity. Drawing on the words of St Paul the Apostle from his Letter to the Corinthians, which were proclaimed at Mass, Pope Francis spoke of the difficulty that some Christians – and others, who might otherwise be attracted to the Faith – have in understanding and living with the certain knowledge in faith that our bodies will be transformed and that we shall be restored to them.

DAGUPAN City, Pangasinan, September 8, 2014—In response to the mounting persecution of Christians in many parts of the world, particularly in Iraq and Syria, the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declares September 14, 2014—the “Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross”—as National Day of Prayer for Peace, calling on all Church leaders to celebrate mass for the special intentions of these modern-day martyrs and to raise funds for them.

Pope at Santa Marta: Do not take pleasure in others’ mistakes

(Vatican Radio) True fraternal reprimand is painful because it is done with love, in truth and humility. Moreover it is unchristian to take pleasure when reprimanding someone.  This was the focus of Pope Francis homily Friday during Mass in Santa Marta, on the day when the Church celebrates the Feast Day of the Holy Name of Mary.

Emer McCarthy reports. Listen

The Pope was reflecting on the Gospel passage where Jesus warns against noticing the splinter in our brother’s eye but failing to see the wooden beam in our own. This inspired him to return to the subject of fraternal reprimand. First, he said, the erring brother should be reprimanded with charity.
