Naubos nang lahat sa kapapagamot ang kanyang kabuhayan.  Lumapit siya sa likuran ni Jesus at humipo sa palawit ng kanyang damit; at pagdaka'y tumigil ang kanyang pagdudugo." Luke 8:42-44

Pope at Angelus: ‘Mary is ever-green oasis of humanity’

Pope at Angelus: ‘Mary is ever-green oasis of humanity’

(Vatican Radio)  Pope Francis reflected on the mystery of the Immaculate Conception at his Angelus address on Friday, December 8th, as the Church celebrates the Marian Solemnity.

Ahead of the traditional prayer of Marian devotion, Pope Francis said the words of the angel Gabriel in the Gospel of Luke contain the key to understanding the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.

The Pope said Gabriel calls Mary “full of grace”, even before pronouncing her name.
In this way, he said, God “reveals the new name, which God has given her and which befits her more than the one given by her parents.”

Bishop seeks punishment of gov’t officials behind Dengvaxia mess

MANILA— A Catholic bishop demanded the prosecution and punishment of government officials responsible for the Php 3.5 billion anti-dengue vaccine fiasco.

With more questions being raised in the ongoing Senate investigation, Bishop Ruperto Santos of Balanga said it is critical for liabilities to be determined.

“We urgently and strongly call for full investigation of this serious matter, prosecution and punishment of previous highest government officials,” Santos said.

He lamented that the “negligence and irresponsible” actions of these officials have endangered the lives of more than 800,000 children.

Pope Francis celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Pope Francis celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis left the Vatican on Friday afternoon, headed for Rome’s central Piazza di Spagna in order to pay homage to the statue of the Immaculate Conception there.

Listen to Seán-Patrick Lovett's report:

Surrounded by crowds of pilgrims, tourists and local Roman residents, the Pope recited a specially-composed Prayer to Our Lady in which he asked her, among other things, to help us “rid ourselves of all pride and arrogance and to recognize ourselves for what we really are: small and poor sinners” – but always Mary’s children.

The Pope’s visit to the memorial column dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, included the traditional blessing of a garland of flowers which Roman firemen placed on the statue of Our Lady which dominates the summit of the ancient marble column.

Pope at Angelus: We will be judged on love

Pope at Angelus: We will be judged on love

(Vatican Radio) In his Angelus address on Sunday, Pope Francis reflected on the last judgement, the subject of the day’s Gospel reading.

He noted that this is the last Sunday of the liturgical year, the day on which the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe. Christ’s kingship, he said, is one “of guidance and service, but it is also a kingship that at the end of time will be asserted in judgement.” The vision of the second coming of Christ, presented in the Gospel, introduces the final judgment, when all of humanity will appear before Him, and Jesus, exercising His authority, will separate one from another, “as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.”

Pope Francis recalled the criteria that Jesus says will be the foundation of His judgment: “What you did for the least of my brothers, that you did on to me.” This sentence, the Pope said, “never fails to strike us, because it reveals to us” the end to which God is willing to go on account of His love for us. God goes so far as to identify Himself with us, not when we are “happy and healthy, but when we are in need.” Thus, the Pope said, “Jesus reveals the decisive criteria of His judgment, that is, the concrete love for our neighbour in difficulty.”

Pope Francis: Cultural colonization ends in persecution

Pope Francis: Cultural colonization ends in persecution

(Vatican Radio) Cultural and ideological colonization does not tolerate differences and makes everything the same, resulting in the persecution even of believers. Those were Pope Francis’ reflections in his homily morning Mass at Casa Santa Marta, which centered on the martyrdom of Eleazar, narrated in the book of Maccabees from the First Reading (Maccabees 6: 18-31).

The Pope noted that there are three main types of persecution: a purely religious persecution; a “mixed” persecution that has both religious and political motivations, like the Thirty Years War or the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre”; and a kind of cultural persecution, when a new culture comes in wanting “to make everything new and to make a clean break with everything: the cultures, the laws and the religions of a people.” It is this last type of persecution that led to the martyrdom of Eleazar.

The façade of the Manila Cathedral is ready for #RedWednesdayPH. ACN PHILIPPINES
MANILA – As a sign of solidarity with the millions of persecuted Christians all over the world, selected churches and universities in the country will light their façades in red on Nov. 22 and celebrate late afternoon Masses as part of the #RedWednesdayPH campaign. The faithful are also encouraged to wear red.

“I hope that through this campaign, more Filipinos will be made aware of the reality and the severity of persecution of their fellow Christians and that this awareness leads to concrete actions of support through prayer, information, and charity,” said Jomar Luciano, national director of Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Philippines, the lead organizer of the said campaign.
