Pope at 'Urbi et Orbi' prays for the suffering children of the world

The theme of Pope Francis’ annual Christmas Day “Urbi et Orbi” Message is “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light”.

Addressing the faithful gathered in the Square on Christmas Day Pope Francis pronounced his annual “Urbi et Orbi” Message.

Urbi et Orbi, means literally “to the city and to the world”, and as always, this year the Pope highlighted the plight of many suffering people and nations across the globe, praying for the peace of the Lord who has come to save us.

Sinner or saint – God loves you, Pope Francis says on Christmas Eve

A person’s weakness and sin does not change Christ’s love for them, and Catholics should strive to treat others the same way, serving anyone and not only those they consider worthy, Pope Francis said on Christmas Eve.

“God does not love you because you think and act the right way. He loves you, plain and simple. His love is unconditional; it does not depend on you,” the pope said Dec. 24 in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Pope at Audience: ‘Life is reborn at Christmas’

Pope Francis invites Christians to make a crib in their homes as a preparation for Christmas, noting that in a world in which weapons continue to be manufactured, the crib is “an artisanal image of peace.”

VATICAN— On Gaudete Sunday, Pope Francis celebrated a Filipino Christmas tradition in St. Peter’s Basilica — the Simbang Gabi Christmas novena.

“In the Philippines, for centuries, there has been a novena in preparation for Christmas called Simbang Gabi, ‘Mass of the night’. During nine days the Filipino faithful gather at dawn in their parishes for a special Eucharistic celebration,” Pope Francis said Dec. 15.

Pope Francis on Friday inaugurated the new Vatican headquarters of Scholas Occurrentes, a pontifical organization involved in education in 190 countries around the world. Five South American "first ladies" were also present for the event.

The young formators – present either in person or via video-link – hailed from Japan, Argentina, the United States, Haiti, Israel, Mozambique, Mexico, Spain, and Italy.
