Pope at Mass: essence of life is our relationship with God

The diseases of the soul need to healed and the medicine is to ask for forgiveness. Basing himself on the miracle of the healing of the paralytic by Jesus, Pope Francis made this point in his homily at Mass at the Casa Santa Marta.

Pope Francis delivered a homily based on Jesus’ miraculous healing of the paralytic in St. Mark’s Gospel. Unable to approach Jesus in the packed house in Capernaum, the four men lowered the paralytic on a mat from the roof.

Church appeals for solidarity for Taal evacuees

Catholic churches have joined fellow Filipinos in providing much-needed disaster relief to people caught up in the Taal Volcano eruption.

Second collections in all Masses on Sunday are expected to be conducted nationwide to help victims of the disaster.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Monday called on dioceses to acts of charity and solidarity in the midst of “this difficult situation”.

Pope Francis celebrates Mass at the Casa Santa Marta and reflects on how love is expressed through concrete actions.

Pope Francis reflected on the liturgical reading of the day, taken from the First Letter of St. John the Apostle, which focusses on the topic of love.

The apostle, the Pope said, understood what love is, experienced it, and as he entered into the heart of Jesus, he understood how it manifested itself. In his Letter, he continued, he tells us how we love and how we have been loved.

Quiapo Church to assess ‘traslacion’ glitches

Quiapo Church officials said this year’s “traslacion” was the “fastest and the most orderly” so far but said they will assess all the complaints regarding the religious procession.

Monsignor Hernando Coronel, Rector of Quiapo Church, said every year is a learning experience but most of the time there is room for improvement.
