Pope approves canonical coronation of Our Lady of Lourdes in QC church

Pope Francis has granted canonical coronation to the more than century-old image of Our Lady of Lourdes enshrined at a church in Quezon City.

The pope, through the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of Sacraments, issued the papal bull on Sept. 5 but was only announced to the public this week.

He recalled Thursday’s Liturgical reading in which the Apostle Paul gives his advice to the young bishop Timothy, and said more advice to bishops is to be found in today’s reading.

Cardinal Tagle to lead baptism of 450 kids from Manila slums

Hundreds of children from the slums of Metro Manila will be baptized as part of a Catholic outreach program.

The baptism will be presided over by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle with 11 other priests on Sept. 28.

The 450 children are beneficiaries of the Tulay ng Kabataan (TNK) Foundation which takes in young scavengers and street dwellers.

Pope at Angelus: With God, sin does not have the last word

At the Angelus in St Peter’s Square on Sunday, Pope Francis says that we must never be afraid, as God has “infinite love for us sinners” and that through His forgiveness, evil can be defeated.

Before the recitation of the Marian prayer, the Pope recalled the Sunday Gospel, in which Jesus is criticized for being “in the company of tax collectors and sinners”, with the phrase “He welcomes sinners and eats with them”.

The Pontiff commented that this is actually a “great announcement”, because Jesus does exactly that: he “welcomes sinners and eats with them”. This is a phrase, said the Pope, that could be written on the doors of our Churches, as he explained that “at every Mass, in every Church: Jesus is happy to welcome us at his table, where he offers himself to us”.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s threat for an all-out war with communist rebels will only worsen the animosity, a church official has warned.

Speaking at an ecumenical peace forum, Archbishop Antonio Ledesma of Cagayan de Oro urged Duterte not to completely abandon peace negotiations.

“An all-out war will only bring about a divided country,” Ledesma said.
