Cardinal Tagle urges incoming officials to strive for real reform

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila
MANILA, June 24, 2016— Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle called on new officials to live up to the trust they received from the electorate.

The Manila archbishop on Friday said the incoming administration and other newly-elected leaders must set an example in improving ways in serving the people.

“I hope that the next or those who will inherit (the government administration) will also strive (to address the country’s problems),” Cardinal Tagle said.

Asked of his assessment on the administration of outgoing President Benigno Aquino III, the cardinal said there is no perfect government anywhere around the world.

He said that like the previous administrations, the Aquino government have many accomplishments but there are also things that still needs to be addressed.

“All administrations may have strived and worked hard but all administrations as well left things that still need to be addressed. That’s life!” he added,

“No one or group can claim that they were able to solve everything,” said Tagle, who just celebrated his 59th birthday on Tuesday.

The cardinal has earlier issued an oratio imperata or obligatory prayer for government officials and called on the faithful to pray for the country’s next leaders. (R. Lagarde/CBCPNews)
