Pope Francis appoints Tagle CBF President

MANILA, March 9, 2015— Pope Francis has confirmed the appointment of Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle as the President of the Catholic Biblical Federation (CBF).

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle
The Pope made the official announcement at the Vatican on March 5, around four months after Tagle was elected to head the Catholic fellowship of international and local organizations committed to the Biblical-pastoral ministry last October 2014.

Tagle will assume his new post, which he will hold until 2021, during the 9th CBF Plenary Assembly this coming June 18 to 23 in Nemi, Italy. He will succeed Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, who served since September 2002.

The Filipino cardinal is already holding different posts in the Roman Curia, which has been the subject of reform by Pope Francis.

This include his being a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Family, Pontifical Council for the Laity and for Pastoral Ministry to Migrants and Travelers.

Tagle is also among members of the congregation responsible for all concerns of institutes of consecrated life and of the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education.

The 57-year old theologian is also among the members of the Permanent Council of the Synod of Bishops.
