Rommel Lopez, one of the organizers stressed that in these trying times the Lord is asking the Filipino people to be united as one in prayer and worship.
“Despite what happened in the Visayas, the Lord is still guiding and protecting us. So this meeting with the youth and our fellow Filipino people is a chance for us to thank the Lord,” Lopez said.
“When we are united, especially now, we are called to be missionaries of love. In this area, we can be an example of love, in reaching out by prayer and offer it to the people who were affected. United as one in prayer, all of us will rock the heavens. God is the one who will also help them rebuild the Churches and the lives of the people there in the Visayas,” he added.

Pope: faith is not ‘private,' worship God firmly despite apostasy and persecution

2013-11-28 Vatican Radio
(Vatican Radio) There are worldly powers that want religion to be
simply a private matter and today’s persecuted Christians are a sign of
the trials that precede Jesus’ final coming – that’s the message Pope
Francis imparted to the faithful gathered for early morning mass
Thursday at the Santa Marta Guest house inside the Vatican. Tracey
McClure has more:Listen:
In the final battle between God and evil that we read in the liturgy in these days, there’s a trap which Pope Francis calls “universal temptation.” It’s the temptation to give in to the deceitful ways of those against God. But those with true faith can look to Jesus for the strength to withstand the insidiousness of evil. Jesus, who endured insults and lies in his public life and the trials of evil in the desert, bore them to his death on the Cross. But, as Prince of Peace, Jesus triumphed over the prince of the world through the Resurrection.

The prayer support network of the pro-life movement ‘Rosary for Life’ donated to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines an initial 3,000 rosaries for Tacloban to help uplift the spiritual morale of the devastated people in the city.
“We know that through prayers somehow we will survive as a people and persevere in life. The primacy of the spiritual dimension in our lives must be emphasized to our people. We, of course know that the physical necessities of life are important but also important is the spiritual side of the people in this recent calamity. We are making these rosaries available to people to help them pray in this time of trial and tragedy,” said William Lorenzo, the communication officer of Rosaries for Life.

Pope: the spirit of curiosity distances one from God

2013-11-14 Vatican Radio
(Vatican Radio) The spirit of curiosity generates confusion and
distances a person from the Spirit of wisdom, which brings peace, said
Pope Francis in his homily during Thursday morning Mass at Casa Santa
Marta. The Pope began his homily by commenting on the first reading from the Book of Wisdom, which describes “the state of the soul of the spiritual man and woman”, of true Christians, who live “in the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. And this wisdom carries them forward with this intelligent, holy, single, manifold and subtle spirit”.

‘Yolanda’ traps original Fatima image in E. Samar
The original image of the Our Lady of Fatima upon its arrival at the St. Joachim Parish Church in Dolores, Eastern Samar, November 7. (Fr. Romeo Lito Cardoso)
MANILA, Nov. 9,
2013— The international pilgrim statue of the Our Lady of Fatima was
trapped in Eastern Samar after supertyphoon “Yolanda” battered Central
Philippines. The image arrived in the town of Dolores, roughly 46 kilometers north of the province’s capital city of Borongan, Thursday afternoon and stayed there for an overnight vigil.
The icon was supposed to be brought to Borongan Friday for another overnight vigil but it is not sure if the plan pushed through as communication and power is down in the area.
Dozens feared dead as the strongest typhoon in the world this year and poised to be the most powerful ever to hit land smashed various areas in Visayas on Friday.

Pope Francis: children fed "unclean bread" of corruption are starved of dignity

2013-11-08 Vatican Radio
(Vatican Radio) Parents who feed their children on “unclean bread”,
earned through bribes and corruption, are starving their children of
dignity, because dishonest work robs us of our dignity. These were the
words of Pope Francis during his homily at Mass on Friday morning in the
Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.Pope Francis focused his homily on the parable of the dishonest steward, in order to talk about the dangers “of worldliness, of mundane affairs”. Jesus “prayed to the Father that his disciples might not fall into the trap of worldliness”, which is “the enemy”.
“When we think of our enemies, we really think of the devil first, because it’s the devil that harms us. The devil enjoys the atmosphere, the lifestyle of worldliness. And this steward is an example of worldliness. Some of you might say: “But this man only did what everyone does!”. But no, not everyone! Some company administrators, some public administrators, some government administrators… perhaps there are not even very many. But it’s that attitude of the shortcut, of the most comfortable way to earn a living.”
